Friday, March 15 | 11:00 am -1:30 pm:
Intermediate & Pranayama
recommended minimum of one year regular Bikram Yoga practice
Progress beyond beginning practices and concepts with this 2.5 -hour immersion. We will discuss what it means to be an intermediate yogi, including practice philosophy and how to use the body and mind with more detail. Asana practice will entail 40 postures from the Ghosh lineage that work toward Arm Balancing & Inversion, Full Backbending, and Leg Behind the Head. Practice will conclude with Pranayama: breathing exercises that are the next step beyond Asana in a yogi’s progress.
Friday, March 15 | 2:30 pm – 5:00 pm:
Bending the Spine – Forward and Backward Bending
Forward and backward bending postures are the gems of an asana practice. They create movement in the spine leading to better posture, circulation, digestion and greater energy. In this all levels class we will explore effective engagement of the abdominal and back muscles (making your postures feel easier!) and learn how the combination of the spinal movements balance the nervous system. You will learn how to adjust your postures based on your current mobility, and leave knowing how to get the most out of your practice.
Saturday, March 16 | Noon – 3:00 pm:
Ghosh Yoga Lineage History & Practice
An all levels class. Explore the history of Ghosh yoga beginning from its origins in Kolkata, India. Learn how this lineage evolved out of body building and therapy to what is practiced today. You will become familiar with the great students of Bishnu Ghosh and explore concepts such as sequencing, heat, and competition. We will then go on to practice asana as instructed by Bishnu Ghosh himself and his two greatest students: Buddha Bose (1930s) & Dr. Gouri Shankar Mukerji (1940-60s). Their approach to asana practice includes some different posture setups, multiple sets, specific breathing techniques, and long holds.
Saturday, March 16 | 3:30-6:00 pm:
Integrating Breath, Abs, & Glutes
Practice the well-known sequence of 26 postures that we do in Bikram Yoga with a new focus. Learn how to breathe in each position to support the body instead of working against it. Learn the complementary functions of the abs and glutes (butt muscles) to control the pelvis and spine, bringing new stability and ease, especially in the standing and balancing postures. Practice will include 2 sets of each posture, plus additional explanations, preparations and exercises. Open to all levels of Bikram Yoga practitioners.
Sunday, March 17 | 10:00 am – 12:30 pm:
Advancing Your Practice & Pranayama
recommended minimum of 1-2 years regular Bikram Yoga practice, or permission of director
Progress into intermediate and advanced concepts and practice with this immersion. We will discuss what it means to be an intermediate and advanced yogi, including practice philosophy and how to use the body and mind with more detail. Asana practice will entail 60 postures that work toward Arm Balancing & Inversion, Full Backbending, and Leg Behind the Head. Practice will conclude with Pranayama: breathing exercises that are the next step beyond Asana in a yogi’s progress.
This is geared towards already-established teachers in the lineage as well as very experienced students (2 years practice and 300 classes minimum).

Sunday, March 17 | 1:30 – 4:00 pm:
Yoga Therapeutics for Back Pain and Stress Reduction
all levels, especially accessible to those with no prior yoga experience
Therapeutic exercises are simple body movements to improve functional health, strength and range of motion. This workshop will focus on bringing stability and relief to the spine, especially the lower back. Also we will focus on calming the body, breath and mind, reducing stress and creating a restful state. Learn how to recognize and manage pain in your everyday life, and also how to calm yourself at bedtime or in stressful situations. This workshop is ideal for beginners, elders, non-yogis and yoga teachers. Bring your family members or friends who have injuries or pain.

Ida Jo and Scott Lamps are the head teachers of Ghosh Yoga, and the coordinators of the Ghosh’s Yoga College Therapeutic Yoga Teacher Training, led by Bishnu Ghosh’s granddaughter, Muktamala. They have published the Ghosh Yoga manuals and lead the Ghosh Practice Weeks around the United States.
You Can Learn about Lineage History
The Ghosh Lineage of Calcutta – from which Bikram Yoga is derived – has a rich history, including therapeutic exercises and advancing levels of asana practice.
You will learn and practice the approach of other renowned 20th century students of Bishnu Ghosh.
And you will update your understanding of the origins of and precursors to Bikram Yoga.
And You Will Strengthen Your Ongoing Education
Teachers who complete the full weekend of workshops plus BYCA classes will develop broader perspectives.
You will learn more about therapeutic exercises as precursors and preparation for asanas.
You can also learn safe and progressive ways to practice intermediate and advanced postures in the Ghosh Lineage.
note for Teachers: All Ghosh Workshops and BYCA classes taught by Ann count toward Original Hot Yoga Association continuing education hours. Teachers who complete all 6 workshops plus 2 of Ann’s Bikram Yoga classes will receive endorsement for 18.5 hours of continuing education credits towards the OHYA 30-hour requirement.
