Yoga for Kids and Youth - Bikram Yoga

Date/Time
Date(s) - 12/19/2019
5:45 pm - 7:15 pm

Location
Bikram Yoga Capital Area

Every Thursday for the 5:45 pm class please join us for our very special 26&2 class for kids and youth.  The traditional therapeutic Bikram Yoga class is instructed at a lower temperature.

Kids *and* their parents practice together!  Read about our regular youth practitioners here.

Any new students should arrive by 5:30 to register.  Those who are not new, please arrive prior to 5:40 pm to sign-in, although this class tends to be quite full so we suggest arriving earlier.

During the standing series, adults and youth ages 12 and up practice as usual, and younger kids remain in the hall with quiet activities.  At the mid-class savasana, younger kids join their parents (who are already in class) for the remaining 35-40 minutes and practice the floor series only.  Many youth are ready to practice the full class beginning at age 11 or 12 (or younger), once interest, motivation, discipline, and temperature tolerance are sufficient.  Please speak with the director in advance with any questions.

Kids ages 6-13 practice the floor series or full class for FREE on Thursday evenings, if attending with a paying parent.

Youth ages 14 and up may practice the full class for $5 if attending with a paying parent.

Parents pay the usual rate (introductory membership, regular membership, visitor drop-in, etc).

If a parent wishes to bring youth other than his or her own children, the youth drop-in fee is $5 for 13 and under, or $10 for age 14-17.  Youth memberships may also be purchased here and are good for use at any beginners’ class on the schedule.

Parental signature and waiver must be completed by the youth’s parent/legal guardian prior to class.

Is this still a Bikram Yoga Class?

We still practice the identical sequence and use the same instructional methods as in our traditional Bikram Yoga classes at BYCA.  The main difference is that the heat is lowered to 96-97F.  The younger youth group enters the room after Toe Stand.

It is usually even more inspiring than a typical class (which is already inspiring!!).  On one occasion, we had 10 kids in class with 20+ adults, and ages from 6 to 94 in the same room.  Recently, we had a not-yet-4-year-old complete the entire floor series!!

Bikram Yoga is already magical, but this class is extra special.  Read about some of our regular youth members here.

Many thanks to Rajashree Choudhury for her inspiration and leadership.  Her vision and the work of USA Yoga inspire youth to take up a yoga practice.  At BYCA you can see this in action!
